WOW! Just shy of two weeks after your sighting, during the Long Pine Key CBC (see posting on 12/20), 5 Lesser Nighthawks were spotted (and counted) at the end of Research Road ENP. This is the road which goes through the Hole-in-the-doughnut restoration site. Prior to that, Lesser Nighthawks were reliably seen at dusk, flying over Eco Pond near Flamingo ENP. I remember seeing a dozen, at most, last winter. I believe they've been seen over the Lucky Hammock area before; I just don't know how long ago and if anywhere near the numbers you saw. Great sighting!
