I was able to take a day off and head to the Keys yesterday where I spent most of my time at Long Key State Park and Fort Zachary Taylor. Of the two, Long Key SP had far more diversity and Fort Zachary Taylor (FZT) had more concentrated areas of birds primarily of 4 species. At FZT between 3pm and 4:30pm, there was an abundance of American Redstarts, Black-throated Blues, Black and White Warblers, and Common Yellowthroat. Quite a few Palm Warblers and Ovenbirds were also around. I'd say nowhere near the numbers reported from Monday but still plenty..... I also saw one Hooded Warbler, one Worm-Eating Warbler, one Northern Parula, one Cape May and 2 other warbler species that I didn't get a close enough look at.

At Long Key SP, there was far more diversity....(some of this may also have been time of day 8:30 - noon). Other than the numerous American redstarts and Palm Warblers flitting around the gatehouse, everything else was mostly in ones and twos. There were a few areas with 5-10 Blackpoll Warblers, Common Yellowthroats, and Black-throated Blues were also around. Highlights included a Chestnut-Sided Warbler, Magnolia Warbler, Blue Grosbeak, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, and two Indigo Buntings, and some shorebird species (still need to check my pictures before I make a final call on a few of those) There was also a "lot that got away".

I was especially surprised with what I DIDN'T find. Throughout the whole day, I did not see a single person, other than myself, with binoculars!
