Ring-necked duck flock is about 175 birds in the lake at the Atlantic-Delray exit (81) from the turnpike. They seem to like the food source they are finding. Male/female/breeding and non breeding are all in the group. A classic study situation for seeing and recording the differences. The employee parking lot can handle about 10 cars.
Wakodahatchee still features the black-bellied whistling ducks (5) but the location varies daily. The abundance of duck weed produces green all over these birds...looks like a duck wearing shamrocks!
And the spot-breasted orioles are moving from the edge of one water bin to another at Wakodahatchee. Patience will generally produce close-up views of about 3-6 feet along the boardwalks.
Ducks are still coming in daily and warbler numbers are increasing. Water levels have been lowered these past 10 days so there is much muck showing. However, cleanup of vegetation is remarkably good and the views have never been finer. Eco-pond at ENP should take such a lesson. Wakodahatchee continues to offer a "must-see" for the tourist birder on a short schedule or the locals with a afternoon to stroll.
