Further down the road going toward Flamingo (from Noble Hammock to the employee housing area at Flamingo) I saw about 230 indigo buntings this past Saturday (4/22/11). There were smaller flocks along the road from only a few to over 50 birds! I saw several flocks the previous weekend as well. Birders, be care to drive slowly on the Main Park Road as I saw 2 or 3 that were hit by vehicles. One ranger down at Flamingo reported 150 of them the same day I saw them - just from about Rowdy Bend to the Flamingo housing area. Cool sighting.
