This past Saturday Aireo and I took our first trip to Flamingo and Eco Pond. The tide was low, and we saw groups of White Pelicans and Black Skimmers out on the sand bars, with plenty of herons and egrets all around. At Eco Pond we were rewarded with an American Bittern in a clump of reeds not far from the deck, and we watched it slowly climb higher in the clump, occasionally stretching its neck out. As we walked around the pond, a juvenile Swainson's Hawk (lifer for us both) circled overhead in perfect lighting. From the back of the pond we saw a group of Roseate Spoonbills feeding. We saw other interesting wildlife including Marsh Rabbits, and alligator, and a pod of Bottlenose Dolphins feeding just offshore.

I also went on my first research cruise with my lab at RSMAS. Not far from Key Biscayne I saw my first Northern Gannets and Pomarine Jaegers, as well as Laughing and Herring Gulls. There was little out of site of land, except one Royal Tern, a Pomarine Jaeger, and a Magnificent Frigatebird.
