What a spectacular morning at Wakodahatchee! Following up on yesterdays tip (Kathy Walker)about the black-bellied whistling ducks our trio of birders/photogs went to Wakodahatchee at dawn and were treated to a wonderful show by two juvenile, and three adult whistling ducks that whistled, posed, flew, swam, ate and drank within thirty feet of the boardwalk. For the first time in years the joggers/power walkers were stoped cold as there were so many tripods and photographers blocking the walkway. Blind, deaf, and dumb to the "locals" criticisim that we were "in the way" about 35 photographers had the time of their lives in this unusual avian display and one of the more outstanding shows since last springs roseatte spoonbill matinee. The flashes were popping like a presidential interview!
If you want some close up, sound and sight shows of this bird go to Wakodahatchee as the birds are now strongly habituated to the commotion they cause on the boardwalk.
Also seen were two coopers hawks (but well concealed in the trees to avoid pictures, a great many warblers that seemd to be in a mill-around-mill state and an increasing number of blue winged teal. Off course the unusual suspects were also there.
Dee's report of ringed necked ducks is still valid. They were in the pond on the clover leaf turn of Turnpike and Atlantic (Delray not LBSea).
Pictures of the BBWducks coming here soon. Paul L & Paul B we missed you. Don't you miss this show.
