This afternoon I stopped by John U. Lloyd State Park to check out the Port Everglades south jetty that was reopened last weekend. The walkway to the end of the jetty was popular with fishermen, boat watchers, and birders until it was closed due to damage from Hurricane Wilma and its restoration should make this park a more interesting birding destination. Another T-groin has been added close to the jetty to protect the walkway to the jetty which should reduce foot traffic to the shoreline in this area and make it more attractive to shorebirds. The original uncurbed asphalt walkway has been replaced with a curbed concrete structure which will allow for safer wheelchair access. I have attached a photo of the new jetty walkway.
