Lapland Longspur in ENP

I spotted a Lapland Longspur on the main park road about a mile south of the Mahogany Hammock turnoff at about 10:45 this morning. It spent most of the time either just on or just off the road and was rather indifferent to passing traffic. Mostly it sat there. One time it flew about 200 yards up the road.

I did get photos, and will probably post one tomorrow.

One birder I told about it ran into me later and said he saw it around noon, still in the same location.

Other highlights included American Bittern at Eco Pond, Vermilion at Paurotis Pond, and White-tailed Kite on Research Road and 14 warbler species including BT Green (Mahogany) and Worm-eating (West Lake). Goldfinches were heard everywhere and seen twice.

I looked for Lesser Nighthawks at Eco Pond, but did not see any.

I walked Snake Bight. The mosquitoes were very active and about 10 Goldfinches were present at the end. The vegetation to the left of the platform seems to have grown a lot since I was last there (before the repairs). This doesn't just refer to the near clump, but includes everything to the left.
