Hi Dee,
Your "scaup" are Ring-necked Ducks, which are much more likely to be seen in fresh water, while scaup are most common in salt water. Note the ringed bills and black backs of the males (male scaup have gray backs). Also, note the eye-rings on several of the females; female scaup lack these.
