On 04/13/2012, my two Danish friends and I found a banded Piping Plover at Tigertail Beach on Marco Island. I sent in the band info to the proper authorities and received this response:
"This plover, a female, was hatched in 2010 at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, MI. She was given her unique band combination last summer (2011) at Manistee, MI when she nested there. We hope to see her back up north soon! Our first male plovers returned 4/6. They're waiting for the females.
