A visit to Everglades National Park on Friday 26th produced many interesting birds including a single Dark-eyed Junco at the entrance to a service road on the left about 1.8 miles south of the turnoff for Mahogany Hammock. A White-crowned Sparrow and Chipping Sparrow were also feeding around the barrier at the entrance. I managed to get several digital stills with my camcorder, the best of which can be viewed at http://photos.yahoo.com/markberney. The days birding started at Eco Pond at 6.15am. Here are the rest of the highlights:
5 Lesser Nighthawk (over Eco pond until 6.25am)
1 Barred Owl (heard in the distance from Eco pond)
1 Cedar Waxwing (near campground entrance booth)
1 Ruby-crowned Kinglet (Eco pond loop)
2 Clay-colored Sparrow (Paurotis pond road)
1 Chipping Sparrow (Mrazek pond, sides of road)
1 female Vermilion Flycatcher (still at Paurotis pond road)
70+ A.Goldfinch (everywhere!)
30-40 Greater Flamingo (east of Snake Bight)
1 Marbled Godwit (Snake Bight)
6 A.Avocet (Snake Bight)
19 Black-necked Stilt (Snake Bight)
1 A.Coot (one lonely individual at Mrazek pond)
Good birding,
Mark
