I arrived a little late to Larry and Penny Thompson at about 7:55. Ruddy Duck, Lesser Scaup, Eastern Towhee, and Lark Sparrow were on the to-do list. I actually needed towhee still for the year. Upon arriving, I was only able to see coots and grebes out on the pond. I had to walk all the way around before I finally found some ducks. Only 4 Ring-neckeds and one Ruddy. No Lesser Scaups yet. Around the pinelands, I found a good amount of species. Two towhees called from to Metrozoo property, a Pine Warbler was mixed in with the epidemic-sized flocks of Yellow-rumpeds, a couple yellowthroats, House Wrens, Painted Buntings, flickers, and shrikes. I was surprised to see 4 Yellow-chevroned Parakeets, and 7 Black-hooded Parakeets fly over at several occasions. I spent 50 minutes searching for the sparrows, between shelters 2 and 4. Only Yellow-rumped Warblers were around. It was tough to find a spaarow around when everybird that showed up was a butter-butted warbler. American Goldfinches flew over at several points, and Northern Rough-winged and Tree Swallows were just about everywhere. I left at 9:20, with just over 40 species.
