: Since last Wednesday (11/17) there has been a Blue-headed Vireo returning to roost just outside my second floor office window in Tavernier. It perches very near the end of one of two branches, just 10 feet from my window. It shows up between 3:30 and 4:30 PM every day. When it arrives it's a bit fidgety, changing positions and looking around, but then it soon fluffs out it's flanks and scapulars, totally hiding its wings, and it tucks one foot up into its belly. It will then sit there looking around until dark, when it finally tucks it head away for the night. It seems quite aware of our presence at the window (the whole office comes every evening to look). Whenever there is movement at the window it seems to catch its eye, in fact it seems to watch us as we walk around. Its rather remarkable and very endearing. Its almost impossible not to get anthropomorphic, you see we are obvioulsy its friends ;) Because it doesn't show up until the late afternoon, photographing it has been a bit of a challenge, but I've managed to get a few decent shots. Maybe I'll get Larry to post one. Only one other time have I seen a passerine "go to bed", it was a migrant N. Parula, so that was a one time deal. We're hoping that this little dude, will hang with us for the next couple of months, or at least until our CBC!
