The (Cuban) Western Spindalis was still present at Indigenous Park in Key West as recently as Friday, 12 Nov. I saw it sitting very still, but calling almost continuously, in a bush just before you get to the foot bridge back by the pond. This was the same bush I saw it roosting in the first day I saw it (1 Nov). The bush is about 10 or 12 feet high and immediately to the left of the path as you approach the bridge. Its fairly open inside, but hard to see into. The bird is usually perched about 8 feet up. The key to finding this bird is listening for its call, as it will sit still for long periods, but continue to call. It gives a short, thin, high-pitched, tseep call about once every second or two. When it flies it repeats this call 3 or 4 times in rapid succession.
I heard that efforts to relocate the bird Sunday we not successful.
