On Dona Dr. in the Big Cypress National Preserve this morning, I saw several presumable molting juvenile Barn Swallows along with a presumable juvenile Tree Swallow perched in a small bush across the canal from the Purple Martin "condos". I have never seen this plumage as far as I can remember in April. I showed them to biologist John Kellum who agreed that they were juvies. Why they are here at this time of the year remains a mystery. Is this too early for them in Florida? Global warming again?
