I spent the morning birding a few locations in the Big Cypress National Preserve in Collier County. I started out at Carnestown at the intersection of SR29 & USRte 41 at the Marathon Gas Station where the two omnipresent Common Mynas obliged me. From there, I went down to Dona Dr. to see if I could turn up a Barn Swallow for my Bird-A-Day. I found one along with the resident Purple Martins and Eastern Meadowlarks present. At the two "sky ponds" just west of the Everglades Airboat Tours, about a mile west/northwest of the aforementioned Carnestown junction, a multitude of shorebirds was present. The vast majority were Long-billed Dowitchers (based on call) but also present were a few dozen Dunlin as well as 4 Stilt Sandpipers, both yellowlegs, Least Sandpipers, Black-necked Stilts and one Semipalmated Plover. At the Big Cypress bend Boardwalk in the Fakahatchee Strand State Preserve, I located my FOTS Swainson's Thrush at the end of the boardwalk. The only other migrant present was a male American Redstart. Bring on migration!
