I just got back from STA-5 in Hendry County where the weather was excellent, the number of tour participants was low and the birds were cooperative. The Cassin's & Gray Kingbirds that have completely overwintered at STA-5 were still present today. Incredible and probably some sort of record for the state IMHO. Other great sightings were Wood Ducks, Fulvous-whistling Ducks, lingering Northern Shovelers, Ring-necked Duck & Blue-winged Teal, American White Pelicans, Stilt & Solitary Sandpipers, Long-billed Dowitchers in nearly complete alternate plumage, a newly arrived Eastern Kingbird, singing Marsh Wrens, calling Soras, many lingering Northern Harriers, one or two lingering Belted Kingfishers, Barn, Northern Rough-winged & lingering Tree Swallows. I'll let Margaret England submit a complete report. A great day at STA-5!
