Cape Florida bird walk

A fantastic group of 32 (!) birders came to Bill Baggs Cape Florida SP today (4/7) to look for rarities and spring migrants. What we lacked in migrant numbers, we made up for with good fortune. We not only found our targets, we had unusual sightings for the park. Below is the list of 39 species. Birders, please correct or add anything to the list.

Double-crested Cormorant 4
Great Cormorant 1; It flew in to the lighthouse jetty just as we arrived.
American White Pelican 25; Unusual for the park.
Brown Pelican 10
Great Egret 2
night-heron sp. 2 immatures
White Ibis 2
Black Vulture 3
Turkey Vulture 2
Osprey 1
Sharp-shinned Hawk 1
Merlin 2
Peregrine Falcon 1
Greater Yellowlegs 1
Willet 1
Laughing Gull 1
Eurasian Collared-Dove 1
Mourning Dove 1
Common Ground-Dove 4
White-eyed Parakeet 3; Unusual for the park.
Common Nighthawk 1; seen/heard by John Hutchison
Chimney Swift 1; seen by John Boyd
La Sagra's Flycatcher 1; Bird was a no-show until about 10:15 AM. Just as the group headed along the dirt Nature Trail, the bird called once. It was spotted by several, then seen by all -- great looks low and also out in the open. It only called twice more.

Common Myna 4; spotted by Rangel Diaz and seen by group; unusual species for the park except in spring.

Prairie Warbler 11; bird singing full song along Mangrove Trail.
Northern Cardinal 43
Painted Bunting 2; seen before 8 AM
Common Grackle 6
