Hi all,
It's that time of year again, when birders from around the country/world really start pouring into South Florida. What this means for me as Monroe County eBird editor is that I start seeing a ton of grackle and crow reports that raise my eyebrows. Unfortunately eBird isn't able to install precise enough filters to let people know when they are reporting these species from outside their normal ranges in SFL and birders rarely pay enough attention to these species to provide any detail when questioned later.
I would appreciate any info I can get from the resident birders familiar with these species and their complicated ranges. I'm particularly interested in any records of Boat-tailed Grackle from ENP anywhere in the mangrove zone (so basically anything beyond Paurotis) or anywhere in the keys. I'm also interested in any Fish Crow records from anywhere in ENP or the keys away from Stock Island/Key West. This includes the Dry Tortugas, where all of these birds are rare/absent, but reported annually without documentation.
Thanks for your help, and let the eBird rants begin!
Brennan
