This morning at Lucky Hammock at about 0945 Major Waltman called my attention to a bird in a ficus that had prominant white supercillium and mustache, a streaky back, rufous uppertail coverts/rump and rufous tail. I only saw the bird for about 2 seconds before it was chased by catbirds and never seen again. Major said he saw fairly heavy streaking on the underparts. I feel strongly that the bird was either a Sulpher-bellied Flycatcher or Streaked Flycatcher, but I can't quite rule out Variegated. Whatever it was, it was GOOD. We were joined by Paul B, Juan V, Rock J, and Alberto, but despite over an hour of searching, we never relocated the bird.

I may be able to check for it again tomorrow morning, but I'm not sure. The bird was seen in a ficus on the road side of the main hammock, just left of the shed. The ficus trees in that area have a lot of fruit and it may be feeding on them, the Catbirds certainly are.

Other birds of interest were a Brown-crested Flycatcher (also in the Hammock) and Yellow-breasted Chat, Blue Grosbeak, Grasshopper Sparrow, and Clay-colored Sparrow on the east side of the road, opposite the hammock. The Vermilion was still at the Greenway parking area.

Good Luck,

Brennan Mulrooney
