This morning, I sent a link to Toe's photo to Rick Taylor, author of the ABA Birder's Guide to Southeastern Arizona (I just spent a week birding with Rick in Jamaica). Since both Zone-tailed and Short-tailed Hawks can be found in southeastern Arizona, I figured Rick should be able to tell which bird Toe's was. Rick replied this afternoon; he thinks it's an immature dark-morph Short-tailed. The plot thickens . . .
