I first stopped at Research Rd. (near entrance to Boy Scouts camp) at 6:30am this morning and heard quite a few Chuck-will's-Widows calling. About ten minutes later, the dawn chorus kicked in with Gray Catbirds, Northern Cardinals, and White-eyed Vireos to name a few.
At the end of Research Rd., there was a Peregrine Falcon flying overhead. On the way back, I heard a Northern Bobwhite calling and a very vocal Wild Turkey.
At Gate 15, in the large pond in front of the mound (berm) there were Blue-winged Teal, Mottled Duck, Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs, Killdeer, American Coot, Common Gallinule, Pied-billed Grebe and Anhinga.
On the back side of the mound, off in the distance, I saw male and female Snail Kites perched in the trees. Also saw two Limpkin and three Black-crowned Night Herons. Glossy Ibis and Snowy Egrets were in the area as well.
