Things are definitely slowing down as both birds and birders leave for the season. We only had 54 species today (down from a high of 69), but we had two great birds in our binoculars / viewfinders at the same time -- Snail Kite and Sandhill Crane.

Waterfowl included Black-bellied Whistling-Duck, Wood Duck, Blue-winged Teal, and Mottled Duck. Raptors included both Vultures, Osprey, Northern Harrier, Snail Kite, Red-shouldered Hark, and American Kestrel. (We had a brief glimpse of what we felt was a dark-morph Short-tailed Hawk but were not confident enough to add it to the count.)

The C-6 impoundment included Killdeer, Lesser Yellowlegs, Long-billed Dowitcher, Least Sandpiper, Wilson's Snipe, and Black-necked Stilt.

Our only warblers for the day were Palm and Common Yellowthroat -- not even one stupid Yellow-rumped! Maybe migration will begin soon. (Or did we already miss it?!)

Swallow-tailed Kites -- where are you?

Rick
