Here's a non-bird sighting that's worth mentioning:
While exploring some mangrove creeks by canoe last Saturday in Biscayne NP, Linda and I came upon a BIG crocodile resting majestically and photogenically on the bank. Linda skilfully handled the canoe to give me prime photo angles, resulting in some excellent shots. The big guy (or gal) was perfectly poised and lighted to display the characteristic fourth tooth on the lower jaw neatly notched into the groove on the upper, along with all the other croc-specific field marks. It's truly a magnificent animal, as you'll see as soon as I can get some photos posted. (I am writing this from out of town, but when I return on Friday I'll ask Larry M. to help me place some images on line -- darned if I can figure it out.)
If you're interested in seeing this beautiful creature, e-mail me or respond to this and I'll send you specific location instructions. Don't get too close, though, as this is one animal that deserves no more hassle from the Man.
