Hi All,
The Spring Meeting of the Florida Ornithological Society will be held May 18th - 20th, 2012 at Camp Weed in Live Oak, Florida. This meeting will be the kickoff of the second Breeding Bird Atlas, where you will have the opportunity to go out into the field and learn the proper skills to atlas a block for breeding birds correctly.
Some of the breeding species we will search for in this area of Florida include: Broad-winged Hawk, Mississippi Kite, Eastern Wood-Pewee, Acadian Flycatcher, Swainson's Warbler, Kentucky Warbler, Hooded Warbler, Yellow-breasted Chat, Blue Grosbeak, Indigo Bunting, Field Sparrow & Orchard Oriole. Many of which will be singing on territory. A field trip to local birding hotspots will also be offered by Four Rivers Audubon Society.
There will be several afternoon & evening lectures focusing on the history and purpose of the Florida Breeding Bird Atlas.
You do not need to be a member of FOS to attend and all people interested in volunteering for the Breeding Bird Atlas are encouraged to come. You will take home the skills necessary to correctly atlas your area of Florida.
