I went out early to check out the sparrow fields at the C357 canal area. The day started fairly quiet, and there was little of note walk inking out to the right turn in the road--a few Savannah Sparrows and 1Grasshopper Sparrow among the Yellothroats and Pal Warblers. A couple of Towhees were singing, but staying down. I lingered near the turn, picking up Harrier and Red-tailed Hawk. As the sun climbed, birds started moving around more. Right at the turn, looking south where the spillway used to be were numerous sparrows, mostly Savannah's with a few Grasshopper, but I got the scope on one with a distinctive eye ring--a Vesper Sparrow. The scope also helped me pick out a lone Clay-colored, and I heard Indigo Bunting call. On the way back, I took a path down and followed the trail around the pond, where it disappeared. While bush whacking back to the control structure, I scared up a Sedge Wren and Painted Bunting.
