On Sunday, October 17, my ornithologist neighbor John Ogden phoned and said he had seen a Lapland Longspur along the Research Center Road in Everglades National Park (ENP). The bird was there again late Monday afternoon. After entering ENP turn left at the Royal Palm Hammock turnoff, drive south and then turn right on the Research Center Road. When this road road turns due west continue until you pass the Daniel Beard Research Center on your left. Continue past the Research Center until the road turns south. Drive south about a mile and look along the roadside (west side). The bird may (or will!) be right along the edge of the road or in the mowed road swale. The mosquitoes are fierce so it's best to do your birding from your car. Common Snipe were there too.
