About 15 Tennessee Warblers were found today, with 7 being in my oak trees. The others were in the surrounding area. I also had 2 Bay-breasted Warblers (one male and one female). I had a fun time making mental notes on what I thought would have been a tough fall warbler in the past. I must have spent 5 minutes noting the colors of the undertail coverts, and another 5 watching the birds occasionally flip their tail like a Palm or Prairie. Now if only a Blackpoll was around for contrast to the female. Also seen in the area: a male Blackburnian, Yellow-throated, and a few other warblers. What a fun weekend. Theres nothing like a good fallout a few days before passerine migration screeches to a hault. Also, a dark morph Short-tailed Hawk was seen in Miami Shores today, and actually almost grabbed the female Bay-breasted! The warbler flitted just out of the way as the hawk pounced on the twig where it was sitting.
