I had the following birds of interest this morning (Oct. 8) at Royal Palm, Paradise Key, Research Road, and Park Headquarters.
Least Bittern - 3, Royal Palm (henchforth RP)
Sharp-shinned Hawk - 1 RP, 1 Research Road (henceforth RR)
Cooper's Hawk - 1 RR
Merlin - 1, RP
Sandhill Crane - 2, RP
Solitary Sandpiper - 1,RP
Upland Sandpiper - 1, Research Center field
Chimney Swift - 3, RR flying east
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker - 1, Headquarters
House Wren -1, RR
Swainson's Thrush - 1, Paradise Key
Yellow-throated Vireo - 1, RP
Tennessee Warbler - 2, RP
Orange-crowned Warbler - 1, RP
Northern Parula - 5,RP; 2, RR
Yellow Warbler - 1, RP
Magnolia Warbler - 1, RP
Cape May Warbler - 1, RP
Black-thr. Blue warbler - 7, RP (5 male, 2 female)
Black-thr, Green Warbler - 2, RP
Yellow-throated Warbler - 4,RP; 2 RR
Pine Warbler - 4, RR
Prairie Warbler - 6, RP; 2 RR
Palm Warbler - 2, old missile site
Bay-breasted Warbler - 2, RP
Cerulean Warbler - 1 male, RP
Black-and -White Warbler - 2, RP
American Redstart - 4, RP
Worm-eating Warbler - 1, RP
Ovenbird - 3, RP; 1 RR
Northern Waterthrush - 1, RP; 1, RR
Common Yellowthroat
Yellow-breasted Chat - 1, RP
Indigo Bunting - 1, old missile site
Lark Sparrow - 1, old missile site
Baltimore Oriole - 1, RP
Also 2 Red-eyed Vireos at RP.
Of the 21 species of warblers the majority (species and numbers) were seen in the large fig tree, which is fruiting, at the south end of the parking lot at the bend of the road. Of my over 50 years of birding in Everglades N.P. I'm sure this is my highest warbler list for one day. They were streaming in and out of the fig tree for over one hour. Hope you can find some of them. RLC
