Painted Buntings increasing

The number of painted buntings is increasing. There are about 12 now and all but one have colors for the year. There is still one "orangie" lingering. The males are more aggressive but most seem to feed in the group. Catbirds are also now appearing and blue jay numbers are up considerably. Many of them now "sport" the red-shouldered hawk call...interesting. All of them pete and repeat the ack-ack-ack call, with few ever using the what we used to call the "telephone dial call" reminiscent of the old non-digital phones.
