Hi everyone

A few months ago I went to Miami Shores and watched the parrot spectacle there. I posted reports on the Birdboard and I've had a few enquiries since about directions (presumably from people finding my old post) so i thought it might be helpful if I posted the email directions I've been sending out in case anyone wants them. I imagine the site will remain good but I'm also aware that Parrots and birds in general can be fickle and move on.

I went to Miami Shores Country Club. Its a golf course and its semi private. Entry may or may not be possible but viewing from outside is easy. The neighbourhood is full of tall trees so parrots fly in and out of side streets etc too.

I suggest you googleEarth it to get your bearings.

I was a visitor to Miami so i used the metro bus but driving would be easy too.

BUS route 16 from OMNI bus station in the centre. Get off at 6th and 107.
DRIVING. head north on Biscayne which is route 1 and where it forks (at about 80 ave) head left. Right is route 1 and left is 6th. You will see the golf course on the right from about 103 onwards. 107 is a school entrance. You may need to park in a different street and walk in.

The parrots fly around the whole area. The tall palms at the corner of 6th and 107 held the Chestnut-fronted Macaws (17 or so) for a while but they are mobile. 107 is about 300 yards long with good views across the golf course on the right. At the end the road gives onto a small path that leads over a footbridge over a canal where the Egyptian Geese, Muscovies, White Ibis and Anhinga are found. there are flocks of White-winged Parakeets with a few Yellow-chevroned in the canal side tall trees to the east of here and other parrots fly in and out including a Green parakeet, white-eyed conure, blue-crowned conure and orange-winged amazons.

I am told afternoon to evening is good but I couldn't make that so I went at dawn. Just be aware that people might be unsure of a man hanging round a school with binoculars so I made a real point of making sure everyone knew what I was doing. The school security/maintenance man is very helpful.

There's a supermarket just north of 107 on 6th called Aguila. It doesn't look much but the people that run in are pleasant and the coffees better than you'd expect. Please tell them the English guy from last week sent you just in case i go back!
