George White and I were over SW Florida for the weekend. We also saw 2000 Redheads mixed in with a few Lesser? or Greater? Scaups. Sat was very foggy early, so we didn't get the beach until 10-11am. Saw beautiful Reddish Egret, Royal Terns, Red breasted Merganser @ North beach, but missed what would have been a lifer of the Long billed Curlew. Attempted to save an injured Common Loon (lifer for both of us) who washed up on the East beach. Got a ranger to rescue, but the bird was afraid and manager to scoot back out to sea. Also seen at East beach we 2 Least sandpipers and Black bellied plover and sanderlings. Sunday spent the day at Eagle Lake Park in search of Wood ducks and found many. Met some Pinellas Audubon folks who turned us on to Great Horned Owlets at Kapok's Park in Pinellas. They were about 4-5 weeks old the locals said. We decided we need a week on that coast to see everything. Pinellas has a great county park system.
