At the northeast Biscayne key, I counted gulls and waders:
500 laughing gulls, 25 ring-billed, 5 black-backed, 20 herring gulls (or whatever they are called, this species seems to be split on an everyday basis), 100 royal terns, 150 semipalmated plovers, 8 piping plovers, 1 kill-deer, 80 sanderlings, and in addition two ospreys in the air, constantly calling. Walking around with a regular binocular at the intersection between the north and south part of the beach is really rewarding if you want to learn the detailed characters of these and other species, the birds can be approached extremely close. E.g. I learned today that the tiny white marks of the black parts of the primaries of the adult and subadult laughing gull has the pattern of a tiny bird´s footprint.
