After my birding class today in Everglades National Park, I headed down to Flamingo to see if I could locate the Bar-tailed Godwit. According to the online tide chart I use, low tide was at 3:02 PM. I arrived at the Flamingo campground just after 3:00 PM, but all of the mud flats were submerged; only a few Willet were along the campground shoreline. The sandbar off the visitor center was also all but submerged; no shorebirds were present there.

On my way out of the park, I slowed down around the C111W canal to see if any Vermilion Flycatchers were present, but saw none. I found a male Vermilion at its usual location around the water control structure at the C111 canal; at one point, it landed on the yellow gate on the east side of the canal, directly in front of where I parked my car. Also perched on the yellow gate was an Eastern Phoebe.
