What about those imm. Broad-wings that are on the wires in the Keys in the winter. This is mentioned in your ABA guide. Unfortunately, some get whacked by cars...

: This is a question to the Buteophiles of southern Florida: How would you characterize the frequency of Short-tailed Hawks and Broad-winged Hawks perching on power lines and/or the tops of power poles? I'm under the impression that neither species perches on these substrates under any but the rarest/most unusual of circumstances, but I don't have much experience with Broad-wingeds during winter. For the record, I have seen one Broad-winged on a wire, and I recall seeing a photo of a dark-morph Short-tailed perched on a pole.
