On Feb. 13 Terry Baltimore and I met Captain Brian Esposito at Flamingo at 8:15 AM and spent the next six hours birding from his boat. Highlights of the day included excellent views of the 19 Flamingos on Lake Ingraham, an adult Peregrine Falcon nailing a small shorebird, nine Horned Grebes in two groups (four and five), some three dozen Roseate Spoonbills, two Great White Herons, two large flotillas of Black Skimmers totaling about 500 birds, two Lesser Black-backed Gulls, and a Reddish Egret. We did note a large number of Willets on the flats along with a few Marbled Godwits, but the group was too far away to have any chance of picking out a Bar-tailed Godwit. Thanks to Brian for his very courteous and competent boatsmanship; we would recommend him highly.
