Black thoated blue warblers, redstarts, prairie and pine warblers in increasing numbers are frequenting Hoechocka Hammock. Because this land sits at the north end of Broward it suffered much "leaf-striping" by the hurricane Frances. The moderate leaf defoliation makes viewing exceptionally easy throughout the grounds and the hammock proper (University and Sawgrass). If hurricane Jeanne takes the projected 5 day path the next two weeks could be exceptional for viewing as the west side of the storm will bring down drier northern air and help our little migrants southward in a big way. (How's that for finding a silver lining?).

A family of Common Myna birds are still in the area of the stop light, northbound on University at Sawgrass intersection. Note the nesting material hanging down from the cross bar. The birds feed in the median as you face north. Some people park under the fly-over bridge and scope from there a distance of about 70 feet.
