So on my way down yesterday, I saw a kite species along SR 70 between Sarasota and Arcadia. It was in DeSoto county, closer to Arcadia than to Sarasota. All I could make out were long, dark, pointed wings crooked at the elbow as it flew low over the tree line. By the time I got the car turned around, I couldn't see it behind the trees. Is it too early for Swallow-tailed? What's the possibility of other kites in that area? This has taught be a valuable lesson: never drive anywhere with your binoculars packed in the bag in the backseat!

5 minutes in the backyard in Miami resulted in: 2 Spot-breasted Orioles, 1 Palm Warbler, 1 Prairie Warbler, 1 American Redstart, 1 Black-throated Blue Warbler, 1 Blue -gray Gnatcatcher, 2 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, 2 Red-bellied Woodpeckers, Mourning, Eurasian Collared-, and White-winged Doves, and Monk and Red-masked Parakeets.
