Birded the Sparrow Fields and Chekika Campgrounds looking for the White-tailed Kite, but no luck there. However, I did get good, long looks at an Orchid Oriole in the Sparrow Fields. I saw it about 150 yds. from the beginning of the berm. There is a lone pine tree to your right, and it perched in one of the smaller defoliated trees to the right of the pine tree. I first saw it at the bottom edge of the berm, where the weeds begin at the same location. It flew to one of the small Castor-bean plants about 10' in, and looked like it was foraging for food. It stayed for about 90 seconds, then flew to the defoliated tree where it stayed in plain sight for about 4 minutes. Good views through the scope. I even found some sparrows.
An extra bonus was a foursome of White-tailed Deer I spooked not far from the beginning of the berm! Two of them even crossed over & went into the east field.

Orchard Oriole 1 First observed bird about 30' away, located at the bottom of the berm next to the weeds. It moved to one of the Castor-weed plants where it appeared to be feeding, about 40 feet away from my position. I observed the bird with a scope for about 1.5 minutes. Then it flew to a small defoliated tree about 200 ft. away, and I continued observing with a scope. It stayed there 4 more minutes, giving me excellent views and plenty of time to compare to illustration in National Geographic Bird Guide. Color and pattern typical of illustration. A small Oriole.
