I visited the South Dade area including ENP homestead entrance. The two Vermilion Flycatchers are still present. I did not see the ash-throated or scissor-tails though. Upon spotting one of the vermilion flycatchers along the barbed-wire fence by Lucky Hammock 3 sparrows flew in and landed on the barbed-wire fence. I had a very difficult time identifying these sparrows I still cannot confirm what they were but I think one of them was a lark sparrow. Moved on to ENP/Royal Palm/Anhinga Trail plenty of great blue, tri-colored, little blue, & green herons. Palm & Yellow-rumped warblers galore along with some catbirds & mockingbirds. Alligators were out & about in great numbers. I specifically visited Anhinga trail because I was looking for an american or least bittern (both lifers for me). Was successful with 2 American Bitterns found along the boardwalk. No least bittern or rails. Leaving ENP I stopped at the gate across from Lucky Hammock and spotted some more sparrows but failed to ID any. Last stop was Castellow Hammock Preserve and Nature Center where I met another birder that was already there and we attempted to find the Rufous Hummingbird but were unsuccessful. Could not spot the Firebush tree (probably not in bloom) and the orchid did not have any hummers around. Hopefully I will see the Rufous Hummer before she leaves.
