While leaving Key Biscayne this afternoon I spotted a large heron along Hobie Beach. It seemed huge, had an all-white head (including a white plume), thick yellowish legs and a massive bill. Though not a rare bird, the location is unusual for this intermediate-morph Great Blue Heron, which isn't usually seen away from ENP and the Keys. I only had my cell phone so the photo quality is terrible. For confirmation, I sent the photo to birders with extensive experience with Wurdemann's in the Florida Bay area. If they feel the heron isn't a Wurdemann's, I'll post.
