Updates on both parks from Saturday January 21:

At Green Cay, good activity continues - several american bittern remain quite out in the open and easy to spot, quite a few warbler regulars (yellow rumped, pine, palm, prairie, black-and-white, common yellowthroat), blue-headed vireo continues to be conspicuous at the chickee hut area, downy & red-bellied woodpecker, and the screetch owl is still present in the owl box just west of the chickee hut. Black crowned night heron continue - male adult and female & juvenile. Northern harrier, red-shouldered hawk, osprey all continue, and a young cooper's hawk was hunting by the front entrance feeders. Sora remain extremely populous, easy to spot a dozen in one loop of the boardwalk.

At Wako, the Wurdemann's/Wurdemann's hybrid continues to nest - it seemed to not be present for some periods as it wasn't spotted by several birders including myself last week, but this week she was back on her nest in the tree cluster right next to the first pavilion hut. Purple gallinule, sora, American bittern, belted kingfisher all continue to be present, and black bellied whistling duck continue in huge numbers. Blue grey gnatcatcher, palm warbler, and black crowned night heron were all spotted as well.
