Itinerary : TAS Bird Trip Saturday Jan 21, 2012
: Meet at 8:00 AM at Easterlin Park, 1000 NW 38 Street in Oakland Park. From I-95, exit at Oakland Park Blvd. (Exit 31). Drive east 0.3 miles to Powerline Road. Turn left and drive north 0.5 miles to NW 38 Street. Turn left and drive west 0.3 miles to the park entrance (fee). Bear right after entering and park in the first lot on the left, near the playground. Bring lunch.
Next Stop will be Mills Pond, Park Wilton Manors. After leaving Eastlin, return to Powerline and turn South, after crossing Oakland Park Blvd, go another 7/ 10 miles, and turn right ( Right after boat ramp ), Park at headquarters bld, just into the park on right. There have been a good warbler flocks there this winter and a Yellow Crowned Night Heron Roost.
Next Stop, Warbler Wetlands ( NW 21 Ave between Prospect and Commercial)
This was named by the city as a result of a TAS trip several years ago where we spotted a Black throated Gray Warbler. Go back to Powerline turn North ( left ), to Prospect and turn West ( Left), follow to NW 21 Ave turn right and park along grass on left. This week there has been a flock of Cedar Waxwings.
Next Fern Forest, Continue North to Commercial and turn West ( left), follow to NW 31 Ave ( becomes Lyons Rd), turn right and proceed North. Fern Forest will be one mile north of Mcnab Rd, enter on left. We will have lunch here and take two longer walks.
The day will end!! At 230-245 as the leader has to pick up his husband at the airport.
