35 birders gathered for Wednesday's walk. (Talk about trying to herd a bunch of cats!) It was a gorgeous, clear, windless morning with the water in the C6 impoundment smooth as a mirror. The number of waders was not as high as in previous weeks but the number of shore birds was definitely much greater. Wilson's Snipe were omnipresent. Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs, Solitary Sandpiper, and Least and Western Sandpipers were well represented as well.
All the standard waders were seen (including Black-crowned Night-Herons -- both adult and immature) but no Roseate Spoonbills today.
Little birds included White-eyed and Blue-headed Vireos; Palm, Pine, Black-and-white, and Yellow-rumped Warblers; Blue-gray Gnatcatchers (lots); Northern Parula; Common Yellowthroat; and Swamp Sparrow.
We dipped on both the Great Horned Owl and the Eastern Screech Owl but I'm sure they are still around -- just not seen.
Unlike last week's walk with multiple highlights, today's highlight (at least for me) was an unexpected fly-over of a large flock of American Robins.
