Birds and hurricanes

Yesterday, I spent most of the day putting up hurricane shutters for a friend in Weston, but I did keep an eye out for birds. First off, swallows were abundant, and I hope most have moved away from where they are vulnerable from the strong storm heading our way. I managed to find a Cliff along with the abundant Barn and Banks. Ospreys were, my I say, everywhere.
There was also a very nice, large puddle along I-75 just north of Miramar Parkway (exit 7) where construction was in progress on the west side of the highway and good amounts of shorebirds had stopped by. It was sunset by the time we moved by the site, and the birds, so there was bad light, but I could i.d. the sihouettes of Lesser Yellowlegs, Black-necked Stilts, and some peeps. There were many more out there. I was also happy to see some Wood Storks out there as well as a large tern spp (either Caspian or Royal).
Over the Grahtny (sp?) Expressway, 4 Black Skimmers moved over.

Today, the hurricane had moved slightly closer, and pushed flocks of Eastern Kingbirds and waves of swallows southward.
Among the warblers seen lately: American Redstart, Prairie Warbler, Northern Parula, and Northern Waterthrush. Laughing Gulls, Royal Terns, and a few frigatebirds were pushed in during the first band of rain and wind today. Good luck everybody.
