Toe and I wanted to see the Black Rails reported on the Coastal Prairie trail, so we headed down to Flamingo Tues. evening. On our way down we found the Ash-throated Flycatcher that has been reported near Lucky Hammock with little effort. We also saw Vermilion Flycatcher, Scissor-tailed Flycatchers, Western Kingbird and a Swainson's hawk all within 100 yards of each other.

On the Coastal Prairie Trial we only saw a few birds. Savannah Sparrow, Eastern Phoebe, Palm Warbler, Northern Harrier and herons flyby.

Once the sun went down we heard 3 to 4 Black Rails calling but we had no luck locating the birds visually. The mosquitoes were around but bearable. Prior to the moon rising, we took a few minutes to look at the stars as the skies were incredible last night. It was good to see some old friends in the sky. Andromeda Galaxy was easily seen nak-ed "wouldn't let me use the word" eye as was the North American Nebula, Orion and quite a few globular clusters all made the drive down to see the Black Rails well worth the trip.

Earlier in the day I was near Castello Hammock so I stopped by and saw the Rufous Hummingbird, a Ruby-throat and on Blue-headed Vireo.
