I was interested in knowing what time the Lesser Nighthawks came out and for how long for the upcoming Everglades Birding Festival. Two Lesser Nighthawks came out at 6:05 p.m. circled the field twice and 2 more a few minutes more. All four were gone by 6:09 p.m. There was still some good light and they could easily be seen. The Whippoorwill came out at 6:15 p.m. and was flying around low between the road and hammock. We were able to do some eye shine on the main dirt road at 6:20 p.m. in the darkness. Mosquitoes were hungry. On the way out something unidentifiable flew up from the paved road. No Barred Owl called back.
In the morning a Yellow-breasted Chat was heard and seen in the S.E. corner of the hammock in the brush closest to both roads (dirt and paved). He flew up and quickly disappeared, not to be seen again.
Beautiful Day and sunset in the park.
