I've been looking for local cowbirds ever since I observed a Spot-breasted Oriole feeding a juvenile Bronzed Cowbird in my backyard earlier this summer. Thanks to John Boyd for referring me to Rock Jetty's May 2003 posting of a sighting at FIU's main campus, just a mile from my house. I found a male this morning at Tamiami Park, just south of the FIU football stadium, foraging with a flock of Starlings. The blue wings against the black body were quite noticeable, and of course the shape is distinctive. The bill appeared brownish/grayish rather than black, and the eyes seemed yellowish rather than red--possibly the light, possibly characteristics of juvenile males at this stage?
Good birding, Susan
