Here is a list of birds seen at Dump Marsh here in South Dade in the
last week.

Lesser Nighthawk, at least 10 of them. These were seen Tuesday and
Wednesday. Look on the south side of the first and largest
impoundment's, walk up and down the north south dirt road. Start
looking for them around 5:30 p.m.

Bank Swallow, one seen and photographed.
Cliff Swallow, one seen and photographed.
Cave Swallow, 200 plus these are year round resident birds. I have seen
them every month of the year.
Short-tailed Hawk dark morph, well photographed while perched!

Five species of gull , the best being 2 or 3 Lesser Black-backed Gulls
and about 10 Bonaparte's Gulls.

Lots of White Pelicans

Long-billed Dowitcher, at least 16.
Dunlin
Lesser and Greater Yellowlegs.
Willet

11 species of duck.
Mottled Duck
Gadwall
Green-winged Teal
American Widgeon
Northern Pintail
Northern Shoveler
Blue-winged Teal
Ring-necked Duck
Lesser Scaup
Red-breasted Merganser
Hooded Merganser

11 species of raptors, the best below.
Bald Eagle
Short-tailed Hawk
Peregrine Falcon
Merlin

There are 3 impoundments one in the front and one in the back. There is
a dirt road that goes all the way around them. The third impoundment is
behind the new water tank just west of the main impoundment.

A great spot, worth birding if you are in the area.

Directions:

>From the Florida Turnpike heading south, exit at 9B. Following the exit
right onto s.w. 112 ave. Go to the traffic light s.w. 248 st. Turn
right here and take the left split in the road. Go about 2 miles to the
southeast end of the large landfill. Park just before the hill in the
road, park on the left side. Go across the street and walk through the
"Caution: Dismount before entering" sign. The sign has more written on
it but this is what I remember.
