Birders
I just got off the phone with Jeff Bouton on his way back to Port Charlotte. He's fine, but his house may not be. He said that if it wasn't for his house, he'd be in Daytona Beach right now looking for seabirds. Apparently, one of his neighbors (a non-birder) watched the eye pass over his house (their roof was missing at the time) and noticed "a thousand gulls" packed into the eye. Whether they were gulls, terns, shearwaters, or any other seabird is unknown. Since the eye of the storm opened up off the coast of Daytona, Jeff suspects there is likely some good birding to be had out there. Remember winter 2000, this is the guy who predicted Rough-legged Hawk at Zellwood ...
cheers
David
